Waiting 2 Xhale EP (Consortium Muzik)To be (yourself) or not to be… That’s no doubt where Consortium Muzik label head Big Cee has been at since the launch of his imprint exactly a year ago, focusing on a certain sense of aesthetics as opposed to jump on the trend of the moment with, as a direct result, the building of an undeniable identity to his young venture.
Consortium isn’t about bubble gum music, he said to me recently, with the listeners put in the position to find exactly what they may expect… In other words, carefully selected pieces of modern soul. Arrivin’ right on time as both the celebration of Spring and the ideal soundtrack to the Post WMC’08 recovery period comes this aptly titled 3 tracker by the likes of three female singers.
Three ladies I’d be tempted to consider as some unlikely incarnation of Charlie’s Angels judging by the beauty of their interpretations. From Baltimore-based Carolyn Victorian on the smooth and aearial ‘U Don’t Know’ as produced by Alan Smithee. To Miss Yvonne’s whose almost plaintive ‘Confusion’ is given extra emphasis by the vibrant rework of Jason B. Not to mention new comer Tmjaa featuring Monte Carlo Method responsible of the heavenly ‘Love High’ which, bein’ given the exposure it fully deserves, should blow the minds of the chillin’ headz from Phil ‘Cantoma’ Mison to Chris Coco, José Padilla and the likes… MFSB (Indamixworldwide.com)
