Andru Pozzatron is a DJ and producer based in Ottawa, Canada whose beginnings were steeped in the world of hip hop. Within this genre he learned to mix and scratch, developing a love for phat, funky beats. Pozzatron's eventual transformation to a house music DJ came through chance meetings with the music in darkened nightclubs as well as global visits to the vibrant scenes in Ibiza and Rio de Janeiro. Now Andru Pozzatron is a house-head through and through, but still drawing upon an eclectic musical background to bring different styles into his overall sound.

Pozzatron saw the opportunity of his debut release for Deepfunk Records as a chance to play with his known technique as his tracks usually go the more aggressive dance floor route. Inspired by the label's name Pozzatron created a duo of cuts brimming with funk and deep, driving beats. Christened Funk That this single delivers its promise of floor-shaking house jackers, complete with bouncy bass quakes and rhythmic vocal hits. It's not too far off from Pozzatron's hip hop past as many of the same production aesthetics are here making these tracks huge, beat heavy, and funked out.

The title track immediately grabs with a boldly sputtered vocal sample on top of beefy drums, disco stabs, and crunchy, swelling bass notes. This modus operandi is continued with the b-side “It's Party Time” exhibiting serious sonic squelch powering some seriously skippy jackin' rhythms. “Funk That” is treated to four berserk remixes: Camouflage, Corduroy Mavericks, Go Go Bizkitt!, and Mike Magaña doing the do. UK-via-South Africa DJ Camouflage (Funkfield, Greenhouse, ChicagoHouse.FM) offers a more percussive interpretation containing wild breakdowns, synth builds, and ominous vocal drops. We return to the USA for Kentucky-based production duo Corduroy Mavericks (Flapjack, Alphabet) who contribute a hard-hitting remix adding 80's funk synth and vocal elements over deadly low-end beats. Go Go Bizkitt!, coming off the beloved StutterFunk EP on Deepfunk, add a touch of disco and a bounty of crazed effects in a club-decimating remix treatment. Finally, Los Angeles' resident DJ of the HAWT parties Mike Magaña supplies the deepest mix of the set. A warm low end, keyboard chord stabs, and a playful staccato rhythm melody combine to make Magaña's mix the choice of many DJs.

All in all, Andru Pozzatron's “Funk That” leads a solid package filled with assured dancefloor prowess. We'll keep you posted for more to come from Deepfunk Records, the label that truly funks ya!
