Tradition: n. tra * di * tion
: the stories, beliefs, etc., that have been part of the culture of a group of people for a long time

Tribute: n. tri * bute
: something that you say, give, or due to show respect, love or affection

These two words, as defined by Webster's Dictionary, are the DNA of Shelter. Two common words that created and shaped the history of Dance Music. Yes the music is important, but many of the same types of parties play the same musical selection all around the world. It's the traditions we have built over the past two and a half decades. It is the communal bonds that have held us together through some of the most difficult times. WE have a long and significant TRADITION of staying together during the best of times and sometimes the hardest of times. WE are a force of nature, WE are hurricane and we are the dawn and the dusk. WE ARE TRADITION.

In the word "contribute" is the base word "tribute", to contribute is to provide, to help or to bring about, to be a part of something bigger than any one individual. So many times we have rightfully paid tribute the greats of Dance Music. The performers, the artists, the DJs, the clubs, the record labels - all have played distinct roles in shaping the sound and the culture of Dance Music. What is missed too often in our great tribute events is the celebration of those that have never been on a stage, played in the DJ booth or had their name up in lights. The greatest part of our era, are the people. Those that have stood on long lines in rain, snow and wind to make the spirit of the night come alive. You can play the best music, on the best sound system, in the best location, but without the crowd YOU ARE NOTHING.

So we (and when I say we, I mean the Shelter family) are paying tribute to all of you. We are especially paying tribute to so many of our family that are no longer with us; our brother Adrian Lawrence (Big AD) and sister Toshia Jones. Forever loyal family, Jesus Manuel Lopez, Marjory Smarth, Tammye Deas. And from the start, Moi Renee, Ceci Clue, Tanique Drake, Jeffrey Massard, Anthony Maddox, Karate Kris, Miles Ford, Camacho and Tyrone Corely, as well as so many more that came and left their spirit and passion on the dance floor.

So on this night we ask that you come and pay TRIBUTE to our family members, come and share your stories about our loved ones, now the divine ones. I know they will be there that night, close your eyes and dance with them, call their names, feel their big beautiful spirits. Pay tribute.

Please join us Nov 6, 2016 to pay tribute to
our family members who are no longer with us

Timmy
