DJ Bam Bam turns “Big Bass EP” Into Big Fun for Potty Mouth Music
"PMM034 includes vocal support from Whiskey Pete, Alex Peace; remix by Kelevra"
CHICAGO— Potty Mouth Music is bringing the bass back home on its latest EP with a three-track trek through some of dance music’s most infectious grooves of the season.
This time, it’s Chicago’s own DJ Bam Bam making heads bob on “Big Bass EP”—an uptempo romp of swinging drums, vocal stabs and layered synths that strike both a fun and funky chord on the dance floor. Los Angeles’ own Whiskey Pete and Chicago’s Alex Peace lend vocal support, while fellow Potty Mouth artist Kelevra puts a dance anthem spin on Bam’s title track. The end result is clever compilation of cone-blowing bass that also twists with lyrical bliss.
When it comes to putting his own twist on classic house production, Chicago’s DJ Bam Bam is king. As owner of the esteemed Fly House Records, Bam has remained an underground dance music mainstay since signing on with Strictly Hype Recordings in the mid-‘90s. Since then, he has toured the globe on several mix compilations, and most recently, hit No. 1 on BeatPort’s Electro House Chart for his track, “Your Love Still Haunts Me.”
The latest “Big Bass EP” on PMM pays homage to Bam’s signature style, swelling with big-room beats that border on a nasty, freaky and fresh. The aptly-titled “Big Bass” hits hard from the start, pairing shifty synths with the vocal trickery of Whiskey Pete. The U.K.’s own Kelevra adds dance floor depth to the remix, deepening the groove while creating more than a few hands-in-the-air moments.
Also in the vocal mix is Alex Peace, who gets playful on “Me and My Potty Mouth,” a bouncy cut that bangs without taking itself too seriously. In the end, it’s Bam who takes it back to the club on “Popping Shit,” a get-down, ass-shaking ode to his Chicago house heydays, complete with old school samples.
For Bam, collaborating with long-time friend and creative partner Alex Peace helped put a lighter spin on his bass-heavy, PMM debut.
“Anytime Alex and I get in the studio, it’s nothing but fun and laughs, which makes making music together so easy and fun,” says Bam, who also incorporated swing drums to add even more energy of the EP. “‘Big Bass’ definitely reflects that process.”
For those who can’t wait to get down: “Big Bass EP” PMM034 is available exclusively on Beatport.com for the next four weeks.

Chicago-inspired, LA-based Potty Mouth Music is a digital music label that was launched in spring 2007 and has since release more than 30 EPs by artists from around the world. The talent roster includes producers from the United States, United Kingdom, Europe, Australia and South Africa. Inspired by the electro glitch twists of progressive producers such as Switch, Trevor Loveys and Jesse Rose, Potty Mouth ditches conventional house boundaries, imploring turntable trickery, unconventional loops and straight up fidget into its catalogue of tracks. Label head James Amato keeps house-heavy influences in place and lacing them with the kind of dirty glitch that makes it feel so good to be so bad.
