Becky "Riqueña" Blanco was born in 1965 and raised in Brooklyn, New York. Riqueña's love for music started in the disco era and she loved listening to her older cousins who played disco at clubs and private parties throughout New York City. She was too young to go to the clubs, but loved listening to her cousins while they practiced at home and played their newly-acquired vinyl. While growing up, she also attended many of the street jams held in the local parks, public school grounds, or pools during the summer months. She always admired the way the DJs made the crowds move and thought "maybe one day, when I grow up, I'll be a DJ." Her love for latin music, mainly Salsa, was inspired by her uncles who pulled out their best vinyl at family functions. Music of artists under the Fania label such as Hector Lavoe, Willie Colon and Ismael Miranda, just to name a few, always seemed to keep the parties festive. In the early 80s she and her family moved to Puerto Rico, where she was exposed to even more Salsa. By that age, she also had her own small collection of the "New York flavor" of early house. in the summer of 2011 Riqueña started to share her love for music on another internet radio site and was then offered a slot on cyberJAMZ.
Riqueña now has many followers and proudly shares some of her best sets through her podcasts. Riqueña proudly brings the best of her latin heat on "El Sonido de Mi Barrio", which translates to "The Sounds of my Neighborhood". Riqueña says, "I'm no DJ, I just love playing music. Maybe one day, when I grow up..."
